NwSSU, DITO Telecom Hold Initial Talks to Bolster Connectivity

In a move to enhance digital infrastructure and connectivity across its campus, Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) held a strategic meeting with representatives from DITO Telecommunity Corporation on April 21, 2025, at the NwSSU Admin Building. The collaborative session brought together the NwSSU-DITO Telecom Partnership Technical Working Group, chaired by Dr. Rhio C. Dimakiling, with Mr. Jake B. Calagos as co-chairperson, and Engr. Romeo Corsiga Jr., Director for Management Information System. DITO Telecommunity was represented by Area Cluster Manager Mr. Cyril Jose “Ceejay” Ignacio. Discussions centered on improving digital connectivity, network reliability, and service quality within the university. Both parties explored opportunities to align technological resources, expand coverage, and streamline communication systems to support the academic and operational functions of NwSSU. This partnership reflects NwSSU’s growing commitment to digital transformation, positioning the university to better serve its students, faculty, and stakeholders through modern and reliable telecommunication solutions.

Hon. Lacaba, a distinguished Doctor of Management and esteemed faculty member of the College of Management, was recently sworn in as the new President of the Federation of Faculty Associations during the 64th Regular Board Meeting of the NwSSU Governing Board held at the CHED Central Office, UP Diliman, Quezon City. We are confident that Hon. Lacaba’s expertise and commitment will significantly drive to the continued success and growth of NwSSU. We wish him all the best in his new endeavors.

NwSSU holds NSTP-CWTS, LTS Graduation Ceremony

Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) celebrated the graduation of its National Service Training Program (NSTP) students, under its two components, the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and the Literary Training Service (LTS), at the RSU Socio-Cultural Center on May 31, 2024. The event featured the presentation of candidates for graduation and the distribution of certificates to the graduates. Adding to the significance of the ceremony were key university figures, including Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, VP for Academic Affairs; Engr. Ryan Emil T. Zosa, IV, NSTP Director; Ms. Anna Gretchen Tobe, LTS Team Leader; and Mr. Ronald A. Amoguez, CWTS Team Leader. Their presence underscored the importance of the NSTP programs in fostering civic consciousness and service among students.

NwSSU, TIIKM forge partnership through virtual

Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) and The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) held a virtual signing ceremony to solidify their academic and research partnership on May 20, 2024. The event took place via Zoom and was attended by key representatives from both organizations. From NwSSU, Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, University President; Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, VP for Academic Affairs; Dr. Riz Rupert L. Ortiz, VP for Research, Extension, and External Affairs; Dr. Iris B. Bejasa, International Affairs Director; Dr. Rosalia L. Briones, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Technology; and Dr. Archie B. Lauderes, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, were in attendance. Meanwhile, TIIKM was represented by Mr. Isanka P. Gamage, Co-Founder and Managing Director; Mr. Austin Joseph, Assistant General Manager; Ms. Chanika Gunathilaka, Head of International Relations; and Ms. Pansilu Pussedeniya, International Relations Officer. The MOU and MOA signed between NwSSU and TIIKM establish a comprehensive partnership framework with a focus on enhancing academic and research collaboration. These agreements outline various cooperative initiatives, including academic mobility programs, student exchange programs, internship opportunities, and joint research projects. This virtual signing ceremony marks the beginning of a promising collaboration that is expected to bring significant benefits to both organizations, furthering their mission of advancing education and research on a global scale.

DOST offers scholarships to NwSSU Students at JLSS Caravan

May 16, 2024—The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conducted the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Caravan, which took place at the RSU-Socio Cultural Center in Northwest Samar State University. This event aimed to introduce and discuss the scholarship program provided by the DOST-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) for priority Science and Technology (S&T) courses. It also intended to provide important information and support to students aspiring to become scholars. Dr. Evelyn Bacarra-Tablante, Provincial Science and Technology Director, and Engr. Philip John Condes led the said event. They provided a detailed overview of the JLSS program, highlighting the benefits and requirements of the scholarships. These scholarships are specifically designed to assist students pursuing careers in science and technology. The caravan was attended by second-year regular students enrolled in DOST-SEI priority S&T courses for the second semester of the academic year 2023-2024. This initiative by DOST served as an excellent platform for these students to learn about the available scholarship opportunities.
