covid19

To address the city’s frontliners’ increasing needs for face masks, face shields, and hand sanitizers, Northwest Samar State University led by the University President, Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, has raced to a speedy response through its technology and humanitarian efforts entitled, “NwSSU Respond In the time of Serious Epidemic (NwSSU-RISE) Project.”

NwSSU produced three-ply washable facemasks with a compartment for additional tissue or cloth for proper protection and do-it-yourself (DIY) face shields using materials at hand.

A COVID-19 Explainer translated in Waray-waray containing basic information on COVID-19 was crafted and reproduced for distribution.

A Moisturizing Alcohol-Based Handrub, conceptualized by the Research and Development Office, was also produced. It is made of denatured alcohol, distilled water, hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera, virgin coconut oil, and essential oils.

The beneficiaries were five hospitals - Our Lady of Porziuncola Hospital Inc., Calbayog District Hospital, Calbayog Sanitarium & Hospital, St. Camillus Hospital, and Gandara District Hospital; three districts of Calbayog City - Tinambacan, Oquendo, and City Proper; nearby municipalities - Sta. Margarita, Gandara, and, San Jorge; and various government and non-government organizations.

Recognizing its vital role in this health crisis, NwSSU pledges to continue to rise above in all of these efforts, making its doors open for the needs of the community it is in.
