Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) participates in the First Regional ASEAN Celebration 2019 hosted by Leyte Normal University together with the Commission on Higher Education and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges, held August 30, 2019, at Tacloban City Convention Center, with the theme: "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability."
The NwSSU delegation was headed by Dr. Leo Jesus Lacaba, vice president for Research, Extension, External Affairs, together with Dr. Nancy Getalado, director for International Affairs, Mr. Lito Tangaran, executive secretary, and Mr. Avin Carl V. Cruzada, director for External Affairs.
During the cultural show, the Aspara Dance, a classical ballet of Cambodia, was performed by the NwSSU faculty and staff, namely: Dr. Catherine B. Rodriguez, Mrs. Marianni Joy D. Lacaba, Mrs. Melanie Maria J. Senario, Mrs. Mia Cheryl E. Casiracan, Mrs. Gemma Ayong, Mrs. Cristy S. Carpon, Ms. Liahona Faith T. Noroña, and Ms. Rhealyn Baguio.
Other Higher Education Institutions (HEI) also showcased the variety of ASEAN cultural performances: Eastern Visayas State University, Holy Infant College, Leyte Normal University, and Leyte Dance Theater for the Philippines; University of Eastern Philippines for Indonesia; Samar State University for Malaysia; Biliran Province State University for Thailand; Eastern Samar State University and ACLC for Vietnam; Asian Development Foundation College for Brunei; Palompon Institute of Technology for Myanmar; Saint Paul School of Professional Studies for Laos; and, Southern Leyte State University for Singapore.
Business partners of the participating HEIs graced the event as representatives of some ASEAN Countries.
